To be fair – you choose for indoor comfort first of all, in your apartment with a view. But if you had to pick an area in the region of Amsterdam on a map, you’d probably pick this area.
The postal code is officially Diemen, but the metro and bus services to Amsterdam are a short walk away. Is your work in the Zuidas, Zuid-Oost or city centre, Amsterdam-Noord or Amstelveen? No more traffic jams for you.
Want to visit friends in Watergraafsmeer or IJburg? It’s just a 10-to-20-minute bike ride. Or to the new Strand Blijburg: less than half an hour via a direct route through the green Diemerpolder and Diemerpark between Diemen and the Rietlanden.
Schiphol is a 15-minute drive as the up ramp to the A10 ring road is just a few streets away, very handy. About 11 kilometres to the south and you’ll be able to promenade along the marina in Muiden at the IJmeer. In a semi-circular form around you: the old village centres of Muiden, Weesp, Abcoude, Ouderkerk aan de Amstel, the quiet stretch of greenery along the Amstel river and the Middenpolder, and just a bit more to the west the Amsterdamse Bos. Bird-watching amongst the reeds of the Diemerpolder, 4 kilometres from home after a 13–15-minute bike ride. Relaxing holidays close to home? Take a day trip to the ‘backyard of Amsterdam’ with the natural monument of Naardermeer, the lakes called Ankeveense and Loosdrechtse Plassen. What about an exciting game of football with Ajax or a concert in the Johan Cruyff Arena? A 9-10-minute bike ride or a 3-kilometre walk. An evening Leidseplein or Royal Carré Theatre? In half an hour you’ll have a front row seat. Even faster if you use public transport.
